AIA has released beta versions of its API and open-source code aligned with the Federal Government's new Voluntary Emissions Estimation and Reporting Guidelines.
About the Guidelines The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) plans to formally release new Voluntary Emissions Estimation and Reporting Guidelines (the Guidelines) for Australia's agriculture, fisheries and forestry sectors in mid-November 2026.
These Guidelines have been developed by the Australian Government to establish a consistent framework for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions estimation and reporting within the sector. A key objective of the Guidelines is to improve the consistency, transparency and credibility of emissions estimates and reporting and facilitating their integration into GHG calculators and emissions accounting tools.
Ahead of formal publication of the Guidelines, DCCEEW have made a soft-release version available to interested stakeholders. A copy of the Guidelines can be requested by emailing Ag.Land-EmissionsReduction@dcceew.gov.au. This early release copy has been provided to support uptake of the Guidelines into calculator environments.
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry provided grant funding to AIA to develop digital infrastructure to support efficient technical implementation of the Guidelines into industry calculators and accounting tools. Under the grant, this infrastructure - an Application Programming Interface (API) and open-source code - is available to users at no cost.
AIA's beta release AIA has released beta versions of its API and open-source code aligned with the soft-release Guidelines, enabling users to prepare and undertake testing ahead of the formal publication. It gives users time to understand the available modules, test the new API and code, and ask AIA questions before the Guidelines are formally released. Previous GAF-aligned calculation versions in the EAP will still be available.
What API and code users can do now Step 1: Review the Guidelines. Read the soft-release version provided by DCCEEW.
Step 2: Identify the right modules. Consider which modules are relevant to your specific calculation needs.
Step 3: Review the technical documentation. Visit AIA’s Documentation Site and select version 4.0-beta, where the Guidelines-aligned calculators and integration guidance is available to help test the beta API.
During the beta period, AIA anticipates making further updates in response to feedback. Each update will be versioned, and users will be notified when a new version is available. AIA will also provide test data and additional user resources to support implementation. These materials will be available once the Guidelines are formally released.
